David J. Morrissey Appointed to the Task Force to Study Cancer Relief Benefits for Firefighters

At Morrissey, Morrissey & Rydzik, LLC, we are pleased to announce that Connecticut Speaker of the House Matthew Ritter appointed Attorney David J. Morrissey to the Task Force to Study Cancer Relief Benefits for Firefighters.

Ritter wrote:

I am confident that the knowledge and experience that you bring to this position will be of great value to the Task Force.”

About the Task Force to Study Cancer Relief Benefits for Firefighters

The Task Force to Study Cancer Relief Benefits for Firefighters was established by Substitute Bill No. 141. Members will study the adequacy of the existing firefighters’ cancer relief program and the feasibility and implications of providing workers’ compensation and other benefits to firefighters who have been diagnosed with cancer.

According to Danbury Senator Julie Kushner and WLAD, the state needs to better examine the needs of firefighters given the sacrifices they make for our community. Studies show that compared to the general population, firefighters face a 9% increase in cancer diagnoses and a 14% increase in cancer-related deaths.

Hopefully, the Task Force to Study Cancer Relief Benefits for Firefighters will find a way to balance this equation.
